about

This is the first entry in my modular diaries - an ongoing documentation of exploratory modular synthesiser patches.

The rule I've set for myself with these recordings is that I cannot interact with the modular at all during the recording process. Instead, once I've stumbled across a patch I enjoy, I simply hit record and let the generative process do its work. This method is closer to curation than composition - even though I've connected a series of sound sources and modifiers together with cables, the results are largely outside of my control and yield surprises as I'm listening.

This entry, like many of my patches, uses a variety of chaotic analogue modules. As distinct from randomness, true chaos exhibits semi-patterned, evolving behaviour so that over time, a sense of complex order and change emerges.
